True or False: Henna is for hippies. The answer is BOTH. True, hippies do love henna, but I was about to discover for myself that I too would end up loving it (and i'm not a hippie)! Henna is one of those things that is overlooked in the beauty community mainly because there are no prestigious brand names tied to it. After letting my hair rest for more than 6 months without coloring it, I decided it was time to give my myself and my hair a boost. However, i didn't want to go the chemical route. My hair would suffer from dryness and brittle ends after chemically treating it and inhaling the products while applying them was nauseating. I stumbled upon this brand of henna called Light Mountain at a local natural food store and became quite curious. After reading a lot of information, watching Youtube videos and reading reviews, I decided to give it a go. I followed the directions exactly (which can be found on their website) and was very happy with my results of the red color.
Things I appreciate about henna hair color:
1) It doesn't hurt me or my hair!
2) The color gradually fades, leaving no tell-tale roots
3) You can apply multiple applications without having to worry about damaging you hair
4) It is fun to apply!
Things I DID NOT appreciate about henna hair color:
1) The smell, the smell, THE SMELL. It smells like green tea powder or a stinky barn yard!
2) It can be a bit tough to apply because when mixed, it is a mud/yogurt consistency
3) The color fades a lot faster vs regular chemical hair dye
4) It makes quite a mess and stains so be careful!
Overall, I WILL be doing it again with the same bright red color to liven my existing color and I hope to film the process. In the meantime, watch my video below to see my henna hair color in action!
Happy coloring! xoxo
