In this step-by-step tutorial, I will show you how to create a simple blog button using Pixlr.com. What's a blog button, you ask? A blog button is a small avatar that represents your blog/business for advertising purposes. It links back to your blog/store and lures in potential customers. They are a great way to promote your blog/business! BUT creating one can be a tough task when you don't know where to start. Following these easy instructions will help you create a blog button that all of your friends will be jealous of! PS: I have several spots open for those looking to advertise... just sayin'. Let's get started!
Let me begin by stating that I am by no means a pro at graphic design. Frankly, I'm just a girl with a Youtube channel! I also am NOT affiliated with Pixlr.com (though I wish I was). They simply are the best when it comes to easy blog customization. Let's start by reviewing the size of the button. The standard size is usually 125x125. This could change depending on what the website you are placing your button on prefers. For the sake of this tutorial, I will be using 150x150. Start by opening your browser to Pixlr.com and select "Pixlr Editor"
Once you click "Pixlr Editor", a menu will pop up with various options. Click "Create New Image" (lower left photo) so that way we can start creating your button from scratch. Then, you will be immediately directed to another menu which allows you to name your project and choose your desired width and height. Adjust this to however big or small you want your blog button to be (lower right photo). Click "OK" to continue.
You should now see the size of your button displayed next to a vertical tool bar. Next, we are going to fill in our button with color using the "Paint Bucket" tool. Select that tool and choose the color you would like as the background of your button. Once selected, hover the bucket tool over the white space and click to completely fill it in.
Moving on to the fun stuff, it's time to add a photo or logo. Now it is SUPER important for your image you want to add to be a PNG file, meaning it has no white background but is transparent (I can do a separate tutorial on how to create a PNG image later). Now that you have a picture in mind, you are going to select "Layer" from the menu and then choose "Open Image As Layer" (lower left photo). This will direct you to choose the file you want to open from your computer. Then your image will appear on your button (lower right photo).
But what if you image is too big? Have no fear! Simply click "Edit" from the menu and select "Free Transform" (lower left photo). This will allow you to shrink or expand your image easily (lower right photo). Sidenote: you can also rotate your image different directions by selecting "Layer" and browsing the rotate options.
To add text to your button, select the "A" icon in the tool bar (left side photo) then hover your mouse over your button. Click where you want the text to be and a text box will pop up. In this text box, you can select the font, the size, the style and colors of the words (lower left photo). After you words are in place, you new blog button is finished (lower right photo). Sidenote: Don't mind that my finished image looks extremely noisy. Yours won't be!
Select "File" and "Save" and you are officially the proud owner of a stylish blog button that you created yourself because you are just that awesome. Liked this tutorial? Check out my other tutorials on How To... Create Youtube Banner Art and How To... Create A Youtube Thumbnail both using Pixlr.com
